No, E/Me is a wonderful combo. That is what the majority of Elementalists use. Mostly for Arcane Echo and/or Echo(elite) though (used to double or triple your Meteor Shower output). It's also fun to put some points in Illusion and use perhaps Conjure Phantasm and Phantom Pain for some Health degen. So stay with E/Me, there are tons of options that way.

For your Monk, I would also suggest using the Mesmer profession for your secondary. Mesmer always is a great choice for secondary, it is very versatile. Mo/Me's make great Prot Bonders, combining Mantra of Inscriptions or Mantra of Signets along with your Blessed Signet helps a ton, even with no ranks in Inspiration. Inspiration Magic has tons of options for Monks, whether it's stealing energy from foes, removing hexes and stealing spells from foes, it makes a great choice.

Hi,

You're not playing your character wrong. Some skills from a profession can compliment those from another profession. You don't have to use skills from both professions. If you prefer to use just those from your primary or secondary then do so. Most of my characters has monk as their 2nd profession and I just have a hard resurrect from the monk skills, otherwise they just use skills from their primary profession.

The best thing to do is look at the mesmer's skills and if there are any skills that you can make use of, to make your character more efficient, and skills more potent.

You're definitely not alone. I find that Ele can be a very self sufficient class. I beat the entire storyline, and had numerous farming builds for different areas and after certain updates, all without even touching my secondary. Within their own lines, elementalists have damage, tank abilities (wards, armor buffs, Mist form), speed skills, snares, and even a few interrupts, if you're good. So, by all means, check out the potential from your secondary, but don't feel bad or necessary to use your secondary.

I think most people would tell you got go N/Mo to be a minion master, so that you can get 16 blood? magic. But I think a Mo/N would still work well. Try out them all in pre-sear, you can always change. Just find one that plays fun for you.

They are also n/mo for the mana benifit from soul reaping, every minion dying equals more mana for the necro. Some of the minion spells are quite mana intense, so in a prolonged battle it's nice to be able to summon a new minion for every one that falls.

To the OP, yes ele/mesmer is my favorite too, however it won't be till the end of the game before you gain the most benifit from this combo. Most handy mesmer spells (for an ele) don't become available until the last missions. But for arcane echo/ echo (elite), I find I hardly use them. It allows you to cast an amazing 3 meteor showers in 20 secs, BUT will leave you next to mana drained and powerless for the recharge duration of meteor shower. I now use renewal (ele elite), it allows me to cast many more meteor showers in a somewhat longer time, meaning the rest of the team doesn't have to wait for me all the time. I still pack arcane echo, but I hardly ever have a need to use it (as I don't meteor shower the almost dying enemie).

I did almost everything in PvE without even touching my secondary class, it just depends on what style of play you prefer. If you aren't sure then try experimenting like I'm doing now
